Aion 2 Global Release Set for September 2026

Along with the myriad of announcements that came out of Summer Game Fest in 2026, the developers at NC Soft announced the Global Release Window for the next iteration of the Aion Franchise with Aion 2 set to release in September 2026. The game will be available on their website as well as on Steam, and you can wish list the game here. While I personally did not play much of the original Aion game because it came out at a time when I was more interested in other MMORPGs, I do have a bit of an interest in playing Aion 2 when the global release comes this September.
Aion 2 has already launched out east to a moderate level of support that was unfortunately received poorly with some bad press regarding their monetization strategy. Eastern MMOs, especially ones that are free to play, are usually seen as P2W games and Aion 2 appears to be headed in that direction as well. The hope is that once they come West with their global version, perhaps they can change their strategy slightly to not be as egregious in their cash shop so that players believe they can achieve all they wish through in game means rather than having to open their wallets to compete. Given NC Softs history however with other highly P2W games like Throne and Liberty, I do not foresee Aion 2 bucking the P2W trend. Even so, new games that launch are always fun for the first month or so until the whales ruin the game for everyone.
NOTE: As I have not been following Aion 2 until now, the only information I have is by looking at the Aion 2 website and steam. You can click here to visit the site and pre-register for the game and get some free stuff as well.
After reviewing the site and steam, here are some details of what we can expect in Aion 2:
1). Dungeons, Raids, and Beyond: From solo instances to large-scale raids, AION 2 PvE is built around scale and variety. Over 200 dungeons span multiple formats: solo challenges, 4-player party content, and 8-player group dungeons. Seasonal challenges, competitive rankings, and open-world events keep the excitement high, and the Abyss ensures that PvE and faction war are never far apart.
2). Two Factions: The Elyos and the Asmodians, as is the case in the original Aion.
3). Massive World: Steam says the world is 36 times larger than the original Aion.
4). PC Only: Built on Unreal Engine 5.
5). Flight: As was customary in the original Aion, flying is a big part of Aion 2 allowing players to traverse the world and battlefields.
6). Accelerated Combat Tempo: Precision, timing, and positioning shape every battle. Chain skills seamlessly, customize your class to fit your playstyle, and adapt as encounters escalate. Every fight is a decision, not a rotation.
7). Deep Character Customization: Bring your vision to life with one of the most advanced character creation systems in an MMORPG. With over 200 customization options and countless outfits, mounts, and wings to collect, your character becomes a true expression of who you are.
8). Shugo Festival: The Shugo Festival brings a variety of mini games to Atreia. Protect the Shugos from waves of enemies, race pets against other players, dodge lasers, and more. Earn unique rewards including wings, skins, pets, and décor!
9). 8 Classes at Launch: Templar, Gladiator, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Elementalist, Cleric, Chanter
The Aion 2 announcement was overshadowed by the overwhelmingly popular announcement of Guild Wars 3 that we wrote about yesterday in a blog post. The good news for Aion 2 however is that Guild Wars 3 will not be playable until at least the fall of 2027, so Aion 2 is probably the largest MMORPG release to be coming in 2026 by a long shot. Because of this, it has an opportunity if all goes well to actually have a good launch without much competition from other AAA MMORPG games. This is why their monetization decisions will be so critical, because we know that other games like Guild Wars 3 will not have P2W, or at least not have it at a level that we expect Aion 2 to have it.
I will be eagerly following the developments of the Global Release of Aion 2 leading up to the launch in September. Until then, there are plenty of other games that I will be interested in checking out, with Everquest 2 being at the top of the list with the launch of a new server called Wuoshi on June 9th. I wish the best of luck to the developers at NC Soft and I urge them to make the right monetary decisions to make Aion 2 a massive global success. Have a wonderful day everyone and I will see you later on stream with more final preparations in Everquest 2.
Until next time,
Blackboa
