Part Time Job Acquired: Gas Station Clerk

It looks like it is time for me to get a "normal job" once again. After applying to only three different jobs, I just received a call back from one of them; to clerk at a mobile gas station in my hometown. This may not sound like a glamorous job, but for someone who has only been a Twitch streamer for the last 10 years, this is exactly what I need to add some part time income to my endeavors. This particular gas station is literally only 5 minutes away from where I live which makes it even more convenient, allowing me to have a very short commute on my way to and from work. Today I am meeting with the manager to go over some details and on May 12th I will be taking a drug test as the final requirement for accepting the job.
Lately, I have been working very hard on focusing on what I want in life, and this is one of those things I wanted. I wanted a part time job for a number of reasons, including having more disposable income to support my love of eating out at restaurants, as an activity to do other than streaming to perhaps meet some people outside of the internet, and honestly, I have always had a curiosity for how businesses work and running a gas station store is something that will be a learning experience. When I was out of college, I always use to approach all job opportunities with the mindset of "what can I learn from this?" I plan to do the same with this current job as a gas station clerk.
While adding more to my plate with this job will be slightly more stressful, I think a few important questions should be asked today when I meet with my manager. Will I be able to bring a notebook or a book to read when the location is slow? What kind of benefits do I get in terms of being able to eat food or get a drink during my shift? Things like this will help me know what I need to plan for during a shift, which appears each shift could be about 8 hours long. I will be meeting with a lot of different people and potentially meeting some old friends that I use to know, so this will also be interesting in terms of that. I think many people will be shocked to see me as a gas station clerk and may be quick to judge, but ultimately, I am going to stand proudly and enjoy the process. Seeing how I react to their reaction is equally important in my quest to focus on the things I want over the things I do not want.
Having a part time job will impact my ability to stream, depending on what my hours are. This means that I will likely be streaming less overall, and gaming less overall as well. For me, this is fine, because ultimately, I need to focus on my IRL more than my gaming and streaming career. I believe this job will also give me a greater appreciation for streaming as a whole, and perhaps even inspire me to create more innovative content as I have been wanting for quite some time now. By keeping my feet in the IRL direction while at the same time not completely giving up on my streaming dreams, I believe I can continue to morph my mind, body, and soul into the ultimate human who is capable of managing multiple priorities in life.
And so, off I go. I am meeting with my manager early this morning at 7:30 a.m. at the gas station. I plan on doing my morning ritual of walking in the park first thing, then going over there shortly thereafter. I will be bringing my spiritual books and notebook along with me so that I can continue my morning ritual after the meeting with my manager and continue to build my IRL body and soul to withstand any thing that comes my way. I will likely start my stream a little later today because tonight I am having a Dungeons and Dragons Session 3 with my group of friends from the community live on air. Wishing you all a wonderful day!
Until next time,
Blackboa
