Night Market in Elder Scrolls Online First Impressions

04/30/2026

Yesterday on 4/29/2026, the Elder Scrolls Online released their first ever temporary event zone known as the Night Market.  This zone is a temporary zone that is only accessible during Season Zero from April 29th through July 17th, 2026.  The great news is that this content is available for everyone to participate in, no premium subscription or expansion purchase required.  I was able to experience the zone for a good 2 and a half hours last night on my twitch live stream and have some favorable impressions thus far.

There are a few different ways to get to the Night Market content, and by far the easiest is to open your map, expand it as far out as you can go, and then click on the Fargrave globe where you will see a highlighted event zone teleport that you can port to immediately.  You can also trigger the starting event zone quest from the crown store in game.  Once there, you will find the Curator of the Night Market who will kick off the quest line by introducing you to the three factions who are vying for supremacy within the Night Market.  You will then decide to pick one of the three factions described below:

The Glittering Goad

Many of you will no doubt recognize Tachien's cackling laughter accompanied, as it so often is, by the sound of cascading coins. She is the Dremora leader of the Glittering Goad and a celebrated marketeer who made a name and fortune for herself by auctioning off the wares her faction retrieves from the realms beyond. When the Night Market isn't open, she makes herself the glittering center of attention of Fargrave's vibrant nightlife. A number of you have likely been on the receiving end of her honeyed promises and sweet nothings only to find your bank coffers empty the next morning. No judgment. We have all been there.

The Thousand Eyes

Led by Molto the Whisperer, a Daedrat older than primordial spit, this faction has long been a thorn in the Gleaner's side. They believe themselves to be catalogers of lost knowledge, but hoarders is a far more accurate term. Regardless, they are keenly aware of the power held in time-lost knowledge and should not be underestimated. The same goes for Molto's speaker, the Sea Elf Melandir. While she appears meek and weak-willed, know that she was previously a crew member of the dreaded Coiling Tempest, pirates who once terrorized the seas south of Tamriel.

The Ruckus

Daedric gossip was quick to label this faction as nothing more than monstrous hordes and its leader, Kharakhal Moon-Eye, as a mortal upstart. Know that this could not be further from the truth. Kharakhal has proven himself more than capable of navigating the seas of Fargrave politics, and it was not through strength alone that he carved out a faction to command. As mortals, we are well aware of how difficult it is to find purchase in the lands of Daedra. The power he has amassed should be respected and feared in equal measure. In the meantime, we will monitor Kharakhal from a safe distance until we can uncover what his true motives are.

I personally chose the Ruckus to join as I love the vibe it gives as the enforcer and power through might of combat.  It was interesting to see however, that this faction is doing the worst in terms of its favor gain when compared to other factions, meaning, other factions were more popular than the Ruckus.  I know this because the interface shows you the score between the three factions and which ones have more favor than the rest.  The only benefit to choosing one faction over the other is the cosmetics that are obtained and the order of the initial starting quests that are given, so even if you are grouping up with people in different factions, this makes no difference on your ability to earn favor and complete quests.

After choosing my faction, I was sent to the first of three event combat zones where the quests were located.  There are 4 daily quests per event zone in addition to the main story quest, and I was excited to see how the zone operated.  The moment I went in I knew that I was going to enjoy this content.  The first regular mobs myself and a few of my guild mates from our guild the Beasts of Burden encountered, we immediately got wiped.  These mobs are not your normal mobs and are extremely difficult and deal a lot of damage.  I almost wonder if these mobs are a test for how the future difficulty scaling will be for the landscape content when that comes out.  As we realized that we were outmatched, I immediately started recruiting others to join in the efforts to help us in the night market and I was able to get more guild mates and friends of guild mates to join in.

The event zone had some interesting mechanics, including dark regions that you were not able to step within without a lamp.  Each area of the event zone had mobs packed to the brim, so running through them all usually resulted in death which meant we had to clear everything in order to move from point of interest to point of interest in the night market.  The daily quest starting locations were scattered throughout the zone and were only obtainable once we reached the correct location, and they usually had us have to go back the way we came in order to complete them, further complicating the tangled journey we had ahead of us.  On top of that, various world bosses were scattered throughout each event zone, making the content even harder to accomplish.  This was exactly what I wanted to see from this content.  A group oriented, challenging, and rewarding experience.  Thus far, it hit all of the metrics that I wanted to see in this content.

While I only have 2.5 hours of playtime in the Night Market, I can tell you that I am already excited to play again and devour the content as much as possible.  I believe this is peak ESO content at present, and for as long as people are enjoying doing it and there are groups available to do it, I would love to simply hone my personal skills in this area of the game and enjoy the night market for all the rewards that it is giving.  I know that many players are likely going to dislike the Night Market because it is very difficult, if near impossible, to do it alone.  To these players I kindly advise just follow random groups of players and engage in the content they (the groups) are doing.  Find groups to join that are willing to help people do the quests.  It is not that hard to still get the benefits of the event as a solo player.  You just have to be a little more social and everything will fall into place.  Looking forward to playing the Night Market content again later tonight on stream.

Until next time,

Blackboa
