My Phobia of Face Cams during Live Streams

04/18/2026

In an effort to get over my phobia of using a face cam while live streaming on Twitch, I present to you exhibit A, my mug shot.  I know what you are thinking, "why the fuck is there a towel on your head?"  As a gentleman who is overweight, a wet towel is always on my head when I am in the comforts of my own home.  This is because I overheat easily, and also historically would get some pretty rough migraines as well.  The wet cloth cools me down and also has been a life saver to dampen the effects of my migraines and prevent them from happening.  The unfortunate part of this though is that it kind of looks ridiculous.

Posting a picture of myself with the towel on my head is one of the many ways I am trying to normalize the practice.  Given that I know face cams are super worth having if you are able to, I know I am shooting myself in the foot by not having one when I go live on twitch.  People want to see your genuine reactions when you are laughing or going through some challenging content, and without a face cam, the only thing they get is your commentary.  That alone is sufficient at times, especially when you have a soothing or pleasant voice, but adding a face cam instantly increases your relatability and overall watchability on twitch.

Even with a towel on my head, I think there are ways to improve my overall appearance and perhaps incorporate some Lookmaxxing tips in the process.  I definitely need a beard trim and a haircut, so that would improve the situation greatly.  I could also put a cloth behind my neck instead of on top of my head to keep me cool as well.  That is what I use to do when I worked at my family's restaurant before we sold it and it worked to cool me down during periods of extreme heat and activity.  I also could decide to place the webcam at a side angle instead of a straight face shot as I do believe my side angle is slightly better than just a head straight mug shot.  The biggest hurdle as well is that having a face cam for a prolonged period of time is very exhausting as you need to keep your posture and energy level up while perhaps not having maximum energy throughout the stream,

Even if I don't Lookmaxx however, perhaps there is another angle here.  A lot of people have their quirks when it comes to their channels.  Some people go full costume and persona, so what is to say that a wet towel on my head is not my own little gimmick?  It might actually be something that could be turned into merchandise eventually via a Blackboa Nation Towel store that could be implemented one day.  Either way, I am coming closer and closer to the realization that I need to begin using a face cam if I want to grow faster on Twitch.  It seems like people are getting over the Vtuber craze and are seeking more genuine connection in an industry that seems fake most of the time in more ways than one.  Hopefully someday soon, you all will see the face cam evolution of my streams.

Until next time,

Blackboa
